Give to Caesar What Is Caesar’s and to God What Is God’s (Luke 20:19-26)

Sunday's sermon turned into a blog post with audio and video:

The Pharisees and Herodians tried to trap Jesus with this question: “Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?” (Luke 20:22). If Jesus said they should pay the tax, it looked like He supported Rome, but if he said they should not pay the tax, He would be considered a traitor to Rome and arrested. He responded, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what Is God's” (Luke 23:25). Just as the coins with Caesar’s image belong to Caesar, people with God’s image belong to God.

Proof of the Resurrection: How Jesus Handled Doubt — Luke 24:37–43

The disciples had heard that Jesus was risen, but when He stood among them, they were startled and afraid. Jesus graciously handled their doubt by showing them His hands and feet, inviting them to touch Him, and eating in front of them.

The resurrection was not a symbol, feeling, vision, or metaphor. Jesus was physically, bodily, and permanently raised from the dead.

Jesus’ First Words After the Resurrection: Peace to You | Luke 24:36

Jesus’ first words after the resurrection were “Peace to you” in Luke 24:36. This sermon explains why peace with God follows repentance and why the risen Christ is not keeping a list of failures over repentant believers.
