Daniel 9:24-25 loosely reads, “Seventy weeks are determined for your people and your holy city…from the going forth of the command to rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince, there shall be sixty-nine weeks” or 483 years. My father, John, passed away from Alzheimer’s, as did his father, Arnold. Months ago, I learned that my uncle has Alzheimer’s, and today I learned that my aunt does too. The message fittingly read: “This disease is so prevalent on the LaPierre side of the family,” and then, because of the years with my dad, “Scott, if you have any words of advice or things to help us, we would appreciate it.”
As I prepared the advice, it turned out to be much longer than I anticipated. I thought that if it could help the family members I share with, I should put it on my blog to hopefully help others who have to walk through this disease with a loved one. So here are the seven pieces of advice I have for loved ones with Alzheimer’s.
